There are two ways to protest your property taxes. You can hire a lawyer (who will ask for a percentage of the savings and require a retainer) or do it yourself. The do it yourself route requires you to:

- Identify properties that are valid comparables to your property as defined by Cook County
- Go to those properties and take pictures
- Compile the data in the correct format and ensure it is compliant with Cook County requirements
